Escape the chaos at Tempo by Hilton Times Square Staying in Times Square is like staying in Piccadilly Circus or Leicester Square - a tourist magnet you’d probably avoid in your hometown but a convenient central location in a city you’re visiting. With Broadway, the Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Grand Central and Central Park all just a stroll away, it’s a handy base, especially for first-timers. Tempo by Hilton Times Square is just off the main strip but the lobby is on the eleventh floor, with all the rooms above that - we stayed on floor 40 - so you’re well clear of the busy city streets, and more in line with the bright lights. And yes there are good blinds in the rooms. A relatively new lifestyle brand for the hotel group (there are currently only five Tempo properties, all in the US), Tempo by Hilton is designed for the modern traveller. That means thoughtfully designed rooms, open common spaces and a focus on wellness, with hydration stations throughout the property in an effort to cut down on providing bottled water. The rooms have a clean, modern look with neutrals offset by leather and brass accents. Ours had floor-to-ceiling windows and was very spacious by Manhattan standards, with a big king bed, armchair, desk, a large flat-screen TV, a Nespresso machine, and a mini-fridge. The bathroom was massive too, complete with a walk-in shower, a big mirror with Bluetooth capability for some shower tunes, and full-size Apotheke products. There’s a 24-hour gym on-site, equipped with cardio equipment and weights, with Peloton videos available on the in-room TVs. If you take your fitness really seriously you can book a wellness room, which includes a Peloton bike, a yoga mat, resistance bands, a Therabody Theragun Elite and a Wave Roller, so you don’t have to miss a workout. The Highball cafe and bar is a dynamic common space - it’s somewhere you can grab a coffee and a breakfast burrito, where you can get some emails done, and where you can settle in for dinner and cocktails (they have all their signature serves available in non-alc versions too if you’re really committing to the wellness vibe). There’s no denying that Times Square is a touristy neighbourhood but the hotel really is a sanctuary away from the chaos, and if you’re hitting Broadway or the big Midtown landmarks, it puts you right where you need to be.
