SWIMMING LAKE TO OPEN AT BECKENHAM PLACE PARK

Heatwave or no heatwave, we love a bit of outdoor swimming and we’re getting a brand new place to go for a dip as a wild swimming lake is opening in Beckenham Place Park. The park, the largest green space in Lewisham, used to have a lake way back in 1800 – John Cator, resident of the Beckenham Place Mansion originally created it but it got filled in sometime in the last century. Now it’s being restored to its watery glory thanks to funding from the National Lottery and Lewisham Council.

Measuring 285m long by 48m wide with a deepest point of 3.5m, the lake will be open all year round and will have a beach area that’s free to paddle in but swimmers will have to book online if they wanna get out in the deep water.
