Tickets go on sale in early 2025
The last time a Grand Sumo Tournament was held outside Japan was at the Royal Albert Hall way back in 1991, and 34 years later, it’s returning to the iconic London venue. Taking place between 15th – 19th October 2025, the five-day basho, organised in partnership with the Nihon Sumo Kyokai (Japan Sumo Association), will see Makuuchi rikishi (wrestlers) from Japan’s top-level Sumo division compete in around 20 bouts per evening following a dohyō-iri (ring entrance ceremony).
Dating back more than 1500 years, Sumo is one of the world’s oldest sports. It showcases not only the athleticism of the rikishi but also the sacred traditions and customs associated with Japanese culture, through the symbolic acts at the beginning of each match that represent respect, honour and perseverance.
If you’ve ever wanted to experience this special sport, you won’t have a better chance than this. Tickets for the event will go on sale in early 2025 and you can sign up to be the first to hear about the exact dates below.
