STYLE TALK: MEET MAGDA

LondOntheInside caught up with Dalstonite Magda, a freelance fashion stylist and assistant for various glossy mags including Vogue and Glass Magazine. Magda moved to London 4 years ago to study Journalism at London College of Fashion, and worked for Glamour magazine as a fashion assistant for 3 years. At the moment she’s in her final year and is already in high demand. Meet Magda:

Nice website Magda and nice work, Vogue, we are impressed! Where do you get your inspiration from?
MAGDA: From everywhere, books, films, people on the street, exhibitions, conversations, you tube, magazines, the sky, flowers – everything around me. And at the moment I’m doing this huge project about dreams and would like to try hypnosis and see if I can be inspired by it.
The other day I was sitting in front of my favourite coffee place and they had amazing stamps on the wall. I decided I wanted to use them in my shoot. So I met the guy who did them and we going to shoot for polish ELLE soon. You don’t have to even get out of your bed to be inspired you just need to open your eyes!
US: Good Point and who are your favourite designers?
MAGDA: Chloe and Stella McCartney for their simple cuts and monochromatic colours. I like clean and minimalist. Leather, chiffon and jersey looks beautiful worn together and are timeless. This is my personal taste, what I like wearing but working as a stylist, you have to be open to any colours, shapes and patterns. I think John Galliano is a master, I absolutely love the styling on his shows, the same with Vivienne Westwood and Ashish. I love his sequins and I’m still upset I was 10 minutes late for his show this year :(

US: What does Magada think will be big next season?
MAGDA: Colours. Jill Sander and Prada are all about really strong colours. And it’s not flowers, it’s color blocking, bold, strong and powerful. Pink, orange, green, yellow and blue. When you see colours like this, forget about the shapes, go for simple, oversize pieces add a white t-shirt
also maxi skirts, especially those sheer ones and I believe cycling pants will be really big next season
US: Magda we want to hang out with you! Where do you hang out in London?
MAGDA: I have lived in Dalston since March and I’m pretty lazy with travelling so I stay nearby. Coffee is very important. My favourite place is Tina We Salute You. There Square Mile, delicious pancakes and homemade cakes will make you never go to Starbucks again! They also hold exhibitions and work of different artists are displayed on the walls.

I’ve recently discovered a great bookshop Railroad (Morning Lane, Hackney) which serves good food and sells cheap books (second hand books are £2). They cook organic food from various cultures. I also love Misato it’s a very cheap Japanese canteen in China Town and they do the best soba prawn tempura in London! So big, so cheap and so tasty even with glass of their plum wine it’s still under a tenner!
I don’t tend to go to clubs, but I am often found in the pubs around Kingsland Road.
US: Thanks Magda, that was ace! Let’s hope we meet again soon.
