STEALING from SHEEP TeaserJack Whiteley on Vimeo.
The hypnotic beats and swirling harmonies of psychedelic folktronica new band Stealing Sheep provide our ears with overwhelming pleasantries. Dark, melodic shades of medieval rhythms give this Liverpool band a cool 60’s edge, who battle between the fine lines of dark and light. Their debut single ‘I am the Rain’ was recorded in Abbey Road Studios and infuses many psychedelic loops with a brilliant vocal melody. At under two minutes it gathers your mind in a trance as the vocal chant draws you in and the track turns from dark to joy, your cold turkey turns to euphoria and just before you’re at peace, it’s dead…amazing.
Fans of Warpaint and Veronica Falls will wet themselves at the feverish beats, lo-fi sound and creatively beautiful harmonies and melodies. In the winter of ’11 they signed to Heavenly and released an 8 track mini-LP called ‘Noah & the Paper Moon’ on limited 12”, and toured with Emmy the Great in the UK. You can see them live in February supporting Field Music and watch out for their eagerly anticipated debut album coming in 2012.
The Mountain Dogs is the perfect example of how their upbeat happy go lucky feel for a pop song compliments the dark chants of the underlying vocal melody which becomes strong towards the end of the track.
