From treehouses to castles, you can stay in a lot of weird and wonderful places in the UK but this new arrival in Somerset is truly out of this world. The UFO-shaped Futuro House, which has been flying around galleries and art venues in the UK and France, has landed in Marston Park in Somerset and is available to rent for the night for the first time. The Futuro House was designed by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen in the 1960s as easily transportable accommodations that could be taken everywhere from rural locations to ski slopes. Although people loved the look of them – it’s a sixties spaceship for god’s sake – very few were ever sold and only 68 remain intact.
Artist Craig Barnes rescued this one from South Africa and has fully restored it – it’s got all the futuristic furnishings plus mod cons like proper loos, hot showers, studio monitor speakers and mood lighting, so you can enjoy a very groovy sleepover.
