St. JOHN Is Opening a New Cafe in Bloomsbury

The new spot is in partnership with the London Review Bookshop

Two icons of food and literature are colliding this autumn as St. JOHN, Fergus Henderson and Trevor Gulliver’s pioneering group (consisting of nose-to-tail restaurants, bakeries and a winery), is opening a cafe at the London Review Bookshop, one of the best independent bookshops in the city.

The new St. JOHN cafe is taking over the space previously occupied by the London Review Cake Shop, which closed in 2024 after 17 years in operation. Opening from 8am, the cafe will serve coffee; a range of St. JOHN baked goods, including Eccles cakes, doughnuts and baked-to-order madeleines; sandwiches and savoury tarts; and wines and cocktails. The cafe will usually close at 6.30pm when the shop shuts but on evenings where there are events being held, you’ll be able to get drinks and snacks until later.

Speaking about the cafe, Reneé Doegar, publisher of the London Review of Books, said: “In my 14 years with the London Review of Books, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such unanimous delight across the magazine and bookshop teams. Bringing this idea to life with St John has been a genuine meeting of minds, and I’m thrilled to offer our bookshop community something so rich in both flavour and spirit.”
