LOTI EATS | THE SPREAD EAGLE

In case you hadn’t noticed, Londoners are going mad for vegan food at the moment and Club Mexicana are taking things up a level with their latest project. They’ve joined forces with publicans Luke McLoughlin and Sherri-lee Estabrook to launch London’s first 100% vegan pub, The Spread Eagle, in Hackney (where else?) which also does one of the best Sunday roasts in London.

And when we say 100% vegan, we mean just that. Everything. The fixtures, the fittings, even the candles are all animal free. That tequila sour we mentioned uses aquafaba instead of egg white. So you’ll be seeing no distressed leather armchairs here folks.

A Wednesday evening brought with it that sunlight that makes you feel good inside and out. Two dogs wrestled playfully on the floor by the bar in what is a great looking boozer, appreciation to the striking rich blue interior. The crowds soon gather and the pub is  full of locals and after work drinkers that let off a hum of noise that could be mistaken for a Friday… easily making The Spread Eagle a full house, something to bear in mind if you want a table at this joint.

With Club Mexicana at the helm of the kitchen, every dish is as flavoursome as the next. The famous Baja ‘Fish’ Tacos are beer battered, come with red cabbage, salsa verde, sour cream and pickled chillies that make us consider making our own at home. Our fave of the three tacos was the marinated ‘pork’ charred pineapple, onion and coriander salsa which was sweeter and packed with flavour, we are convinced we’re eating pork.

The chick’n wings, too, are banging. Served with hot sauce, sour cream and salsa verde its drink pairing is a smooth Five Points Pale which cemented our love for The Spread Eagle. The tortas, which is Mexican for burger, tempted us to their MFC – that’s Mexican Fried Chicken and while it looked a little sad, it was epic to eat. Vegan food is just fun (and filling).

If you’ve not got along to The Spread Eagle yet you are in for great tunes, great dogs and bloody great food.

There is a supplement that can help prevent your body from gaining weight after eating more. See this detailed analysis of PhenQ.
