LUIGI’S BAR TO OPEN AT SPELZINI

Mediterranean-inspired bar and restaurant Spelzini (named after founder Jim Fisher’s great grandpa fishmonger and grocer Luigi Spelzini) has opened at Forge & Co in Shoreditch. The all-day menu includes baked eggs with tomatoes and yoghurt and bacon butties with onion relish for breakfast; chickpea flour flatbread pizzas, salads and hot sarnies like croque monsiuer and harissa aubergine available from lunchtime; and cicchetti plates on in the evenings, aperitivo-style.

The drinks side of the operation is having a shake-up though, turning into Luigi’s Bar in the evenings. Fin Spiteri has curated the drinks list, which includes aperitivi like cherry shrub negronis and truffle & olive frozen martinis; a dedicated vermouth menu; and lots of Italian wine. There’ll be a spuntini food menu to match too, featuring small plates like gorgonzola with figs, Calabrian anchovies, burrata with chilli oil, bresaola and mortadella, and trammezzini (small Piedmontese
sandwiches) filled with tuna and caperberries and coppa ham and pecorino.
