Sourdough Sophia Is Opening a Second Bakery in Islington

The new site will be opening its doors in the spring

Sophia Handschuh, aka Sourdough Sophia, started baking bread from her kitchen and delivering to locals with her husband Jesse during lockdown. The response they got was so positive that just eight months and one crowdfunding campaign later, they moved out of the house and into a pastel pink-fronted micro-bakery in Crouch End. As well as sourdough breads made using organic locally grown milled grains and fermented for 24 hours, the bakery has become known for its fresh baked cruffins, croissants, brownies and cheesecakes.

In fact, it’s been so popular over the last three years that Sourdough Sophia is expanding in the spring with a second bakery on Essex Road in Islington. We don’t have any more info about the new site yet but with the much-anticipated Quince Bakery from Anna Higham opening just down the road in the new year (having been pushed back from the summer), and the original Pophams just around the corner, this little part of London is gonna become a real bakery hotspot.
