SONORA TAQUERIA HAS LAUNCHED ITS FIRST RESTAURANT

After leaving their Netil Market stall last September, the Sonora team has landed a permanent space in Stoke Newington

Sonora Taqueria has been keeping us on our toes. Co-owners Michelle Salazar de la Rocha and Sam Napier were slinging some of the best tacos in London from their Netil Market space until they announced that they’d be moving on to secure a permanent site. Not long after that, we found out that they’d be launching a spin-off concept at Arcade Food Hall, Mexa – perfect for when the Sonora cravings hit. And now, they’ve officially landed and launched their first bricks-and-mortar space for Sonora on Stoke Newington High Street.

The new taquería opened last week and is currently open Thursday-Sunday from 12pm until 4pm, but the team has said that there’ll be a breakfast service added on once they’ve fully settled in (which is currently looking like it’ll be in mid-July). For now, anyone after a lunchtime taco has plenty of options. From the grill, choose from the likes of carne asada, caramelo, lorenza, adobada, campechano or nopales, or go for a quesadilla with beef, pork, nopales or a mix. And on the guisados (stewed) menu, expect to see barbacoa, cabeza, bean and chorizo tacos or quesadillas.

The restaurant is walk-in only and there’s some space for dining in at the counter seating. But the site is just a short walk from Clissold Park and with the weather we’ve been having lately, this would make a dreamy park lunch. Welcome back Sonora, we’ve missed ya.
