Soho Theatre Is Opening in Walthamstow

The new arts venue will open its doors in the spring

Soho Theatre on Dean Street is one of the best places to catch comedy, cabaret, panto and theatre in town (plus it has an excellent bar) and now it’s growing with a second site coming to Walthamstow in May. The 960-seat Soho Theatre Walthamstow is taking over the former Granada, a venue opened in the 1930s that played host to the likes of The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Dusty Springfield, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and Duke Ellington. Since the Granada closed in 1973, it’s been a cinema, home for a church, and a bar before it was restored to a theatre, complete with a Grade II-listed auditorium, new studio spaces, four bars (Main Foyer, Ziggurat, Cross Hall and Circle, with local beers and Soho Theate’s own brew available) and a restaurant.

The opening season at Soho Theatre Walthamstow includes comedy from the likes of Natalie Palamides, Mark Watson, Dara O’Briain, John Early, Suzi Ruffell, Josie Long, Olga Koch, Phil Wang, Sara Pascoe, Rosie Jones, and Sindhu Vee. Bryony Kimmings will be presenting Bogwitch, her first show in five years in the autumn, with panto in the shape of Aladdin & The Magic Lamp, and cabaret and variety shows coming from The Tiger Lillies and Jonny Woo. You’ll also be able to catch live versions of the Brown Girls Do It Too and On Cinema podcasts.

As well as offering 15,000 tickets for £15 across the first year of shows for people who live, work or study in Waltham Forest, Soho Theatre Walthamstow will be running a variety of programmes and workshops to nurture creative talent, heritage building tours, and a film festival curated by The McGuffin Film Society in the summer.
