If you like the fact that camping lets you stay in the middle of nowhere but you hate the reality of actually having to sleep on the floor inside a tent, then these open-air hotel rooms in Switzerland are for you. Zero Real Estate has a handful of roof-less and wall-less rooms – aka beds on wooden platforms – across the country, with the idea being that the “landscape becomes your wallpaper”. A stay in one of the rooms will set you back about £250 and includes butler service, wine and pizza delivery, access to washing facilities, and crucially, a back-up indoor room if it rains.
Million Stars Hotel is another brand doing something similar, with over 50 outdoor rooms in Switzerland including on mountains, city rooftops, and even in a converted cable car. With no other buildings around, let alone people, it’s the perfect socially distanced escape.
