CambridgeHeath is on the rise…we’ve seen more and more cool and on trend places opening up such as Hackney Hardware, Mare and Beck and of course you’ve got Oval Space just up the road making the area a bit of a talking point. You may have come across Hurwundeki, which lives under the railway arches, and is a 15 minute hair salon and Korean restaurant. It’s been there a little while and proves to be a popular joint, not just for the skills and quite outstanding prices in the salon but the food is a big pull too, again driving home excellent value for money.
The man behind the magic of all this is Ki, who spent many a year working in fashion with his Hurwundeki label, clients of which were none other than Gilbert & George, Kate Moss & Pete Doherty. Ki has recently launched a second Hurwundeki salon, HWDK over the road from the arches which specialises in 30 minute haircuts. We went down for a bit of a tidy up and to meet the man.
HWDK looks the bomb, with bright white walls, clean lines, black ceiling and exterior it’s like a piece of contemporary art. It’s a smart place with an arty edge though without the pretentiousness, you’re made welcome and your experience there is important.
A quick wash and the scissors are in action sending clumps of hair everywhere…it’s like watching an artist, Ki was wearing a French beret at the time but we assure you this was no illusion. Ki talks about our hair, the good points, the bad and his suggestions are graciously accepted. ‘Balance is key’ he whispers…this man is wise. The cut finished, we’re dried and styled and more than chuffed with how it looks. We couldn’t recommend a visit to Ki’s new HWDK salon more, it’s an experience in itself. Prices for men £24 and women £29, not too bad is it?
Only got 15 minutes, check out the other salon in the arches.
