The second single taken from Crocodiles Sleep Forever LP sees the San Diego duo deliver a more upbeat, raw and power single. Wearing their influences openly on their sleeves ‘Hearts of Love’ is a Jesus and Mary Chain electro punk fuelled driven belter. Opening with a trickle of spaced out trippy physcadelic sounds, blending in perfectly with the video; sunlight kissing the camera lens as girls run along the beach into the sea, the track bursts to life with a heavy fuzzed up bass line and the infectious melody of the lyrics.
The contrast of this to the chorus is powerful stuff. ‘When I die, when I disappear, leave my bones behind’ sings singer Brandon Welchez as the chorus erupts into an enormous and epic sonic chant. The video sees Brandon and fellow band mate Charles Rowell walking the streets dressed in leather jackets and shades, custom Crocodiles attire. Another Brandon and Charles appear as the two pairs come face to face, the video takes a darker turn as they pull out knives and stab their alter egos to death.
Hearts of Love is a brilliant dark upbeat track with a killer hook. The video ends with the Brandon and Charles carving hearts into the dead bodies of their clones before drowning them in fuel and setting them on fire. Rock n Roll.
