is it about Liverpool and the North that provides the music loving populace with a constant stream of awesome choones? Is is the accents that elevate them above the norm? The musical pedigree? We don’t know, but we do know ‘they’ seem to be getting younger and more talented as time goes on, like a musical Benjamin Button.

The Night Cafe are four young Liverpudlians who have somehow managed to raid their parents’ collections and channeled the 80’s for a swoony, gorgeous tune that’s pretty much perfect pop. The production is slick but not too glossy. All the instruments are pushed up front, so you’re getting the full appreciation of their musicianship, and they harmonise well.

The opening bars sound uncannily like vintage U2 (when they were raw geniuses), but quickly settles into lushness with a dash of whimsy, as the vocal line swoons about being addicted to…someone. Job done lads. See you in the big smoke for our a live fix.
