Singburi Is Moving From Leytonstone to Shoreditch

One of the city’s best restaurants is relocating this spring

Leytonstone restaurant Singburi has built a cult following over the years for its affordable and authentic Thai food, particularly the dishes on the blackboard specials menu. Scoring a booking at the cash-only, BYOB spot has become something of a prize, made even harder after the restaurant hit number 71 on the National Restaurant Awards Top 100 List.

The family-run joint, helmed by chef Sirichai Kularbwong alongside his parents, normally shuts for a period each year to give the team a break, but at the end of last year Sirichai announced that the sabbatical was coming a little earlier than usual. Now we know that the restaurant won’t be reopening in Leytonstone but will be relocating to Shoreditch instead, in what is another massive boost for the neighbourhood.

Sirichai’s parents are retiring so he’s fully taking the reins of the restaurant, and he’s teaming up with chef Nick Molyviatis (who was the founding chef at Kiln and who helped launched OMA) and Alexander Gkikas (co-founder of Catalyst Cafe and Roastery), to open Singburi 2.0 inside the new Montacute Yards development close to Shoreditch High Street station.

We don’t have any menu details yet but we do know that the there will be a grill at the new restaurant, there’ll also be a bar (so no more BYOB) and that the “ethos will remain rooted in the spirit of the original while embracing a broader, distinctly London perspective.” We’re also hoping that this incarnation of the restaurant will be a bit easier to bag a table at but watch this space…
