Ellen Chew, the founder of Rasa Sayang in Chinatown, is opening Singaporean restaurant and bakery Singapulah & Arome in Soho next month. Set up like a hawker centre, the space will operate as the bakery Arome during the day before flipping into the 50-cover Singapulah restaurant in the evening.

Baker and pastry chef Alix Andre, who’s worked at Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester and Yauatcha, will head up Arome, creating a range of breads and pastries like the signature milk bread toast for the bakery. Lynette Zheng will be overseeing Singapulah, which’ll serve up authentic Singaporean dishes not often seen in the UK, including bak chor mee (noodles with minced pork) and chwee kueh (steamed rice cakes) as well as bringing chef Willin Low’s Roxy Laksa to our shores for the first time.
