SHARE THE LOVE IN CHINATOWN LONDON

Like many areas of the city, Chinatown London has had to make some changes post-lockdown to get visitors back into the neighbourhood and eating at the restaurants whilst staying socially distanced. As part of the #LoveChinatown campaign, a new outdoor seating area has been opened in Newport Place, decked out with koi carp and lotus flower motifs designed by paper cutting artist Samantha Quinn.

Open daily, it’s the perfect spot to tuck into one of the new ‘Take-Put’ boxes; a takeaway box from a participating restaurant that can be folded out to make a plate. With the likes of sweet chilli Kung Pao chicken & rice from Plum Valley, grilled pumpkin with oak leaf & quinoa from Viet Food, beef rendang & coconut rice from C&R Cafe and Taiwanese train bento from Old Tree Daiwan Bee there’s plenty to choose from and they only cost £8 or £10 too.

The trademark red lanterns in the area are also getting a makeover, being replaced with rows of multi-coloured lanterns signed by local business owners and friends of the neighbourhood, including Fuchsia Dunlop, Sandy Tang, Kim-Joy, Ping Coombes, Brendan Pang and Ching He Huang. When the new lanterns are hung, a digital screen will also pop-up in Newport Place where you’ll be able share their own messages of goodwill to friends, family and even your fave Chinatown restaurant, so get down there and share the love.
