And it’s coming to Soho in September
After success at his family’s ocakbaşı spot Mangal II, chef Sertaç Dirik is opening a restaurant of his own in Soho this September and he’s joining forces with David Carter (founder OMA, AGORA and SMOKESTAK, and co- founder of manteca) to do it.
The KID menu will draw inspiration from the food Sertaç grew up with, including a particular emphasis on the flavours of Central Anatolia, and will make use of British produce. Expect dishes like:
- tombik pide and seeded sourdough pide with kaymak butter
- çökelek cheese with summer peas and carosello cucumber
- Turkish sivri peppers with pomegranate molasses and kashkaval cheese
- içli köfte – aged ex-dairy beef, roasted onions and grape molasses in a bulgur shell
- XL scallops with wood roasted horoz beans in a scallop roe, white wine and red pepper paste sauce
- Cornish lamb saddle with an ezme of roast garlic and sivri peppers
- braised goat kid with good stock and white wine
- seasonal Turkish delights and baklava in flavours like cherry and pecan
As well as a grill in the heart of the restaurant, complete with overlooking counter seating, KID will have a wine room that doubles as a private dining space and its own in-house bakery downstairs. And it’s all going to look the part too with terracotta banquettes, Turkish architectural detailing, and handmade Anatolian pieces.
Speaking about the opening, Sertaç says: “It’s with massive excitement we’re opening the doors to KID in Soho. At its core, KID is a restaurant that aims to show the vastness of Turkish cooking, expressed with the warmth you’d come to expect from someone’s home. Utilising the techniques I grew up learning from my parents, I feel it is an absolute privilege to serve you this summer in London’s most distinctive neighbourhood.”
