A beloved Haggerston dry cleaners, The Steam Room, will be displaying an exclusive print by Ai Weiwei in celebration of Lunar New Year this February. The new commission is called Guardian and sees Weiwei inhabit the role of the Divine Guardian or Door God (门神), which is a traditional symbol of good fortune and protection typically placed above doors during the Lunar New Year period. Tony Chung, owner of The Steam Room, is well-known for his Lunar New Year displays and frequently collabs with Asian artists to bring them together. The print will be up in The Steam Room’s window from Tues 6th until Fri 16th February, so you can drop by any time to take a look.
