you’d seen Gravity in the cinema? Gutted Captain Phillips is no longer showing down the local Odeon? Well fear not, Second Chance Cinema has landed in East London for you to enjoy those mega blockbuster movies you missed…but with a stylish twist.

Immerse yourself in a luxury cinematic experience at the Bethnal Green Old Town Hall Hotel. Starting the celebration of cinema, you are invited to experience the nostalgia of the big screens golden age with your very own usherette. Serving posh popcorn…Hello goats’ cheese and cracked pepper! A seriously fancy Wotsit. Oh and they offer cigarettes too, which you are encouraged to smoke throughout the movie…they are, of course, made of chocolate.

The town hall opened in 1920, and the original Edwardian Art-Deco Architecture merges beautifully with the slick modern interiors which await you in the grade entrance. Taking the stairs to the Anti-Camber, you are surrounded by deep dark wood and soft exposed lighting. The cocktail menu is short but what it lacks in offers, it gains in taste. Seriously good classics such as the ‘Old Fashioned’ and our favourite, Southern Lemonaid, a blend of rye whiskey, fresh lemon and bitters topped with soda is smoky yet so refreshing you might not stop drinking.

After a drink or two, treat yourself to one of the gourmet ‘taster boxes’, designed by the award winning hotel chefs, they offer an unique and exciting clash of flavours, turning boring old cinema food into something extra special.

Once the doors open you enter the Council Camber, a grand room in which to watch your screening…this is cinema on a seriously high standard. Maybe sometimes being 2nd isn’t so bad after all?
