Nair is adding to her central London restaurant empire this autumn
She already has Indian (Bombay Bustle and Jamavar), Chinese (MiMi Mei Fair), Japanese (KOYN), Thai (KOYN Thai) and French (Socca) restaurants to her name, and now for her next act, Samyukta Nair is going Italian. Her latest spot, Nipotina (named after the Italian word for ‘granddaughter’) is opening in Mayfair this autumn and it’s going to focus on homestyle dishes made with seasonal produce, served from breakfast right through to late dinners.
Turin-born Somaia Hammad will be heading up the kitchen, where she’ll be showcasing family recipes from Puglia, northern Italian specialities she learned while training as a chef in the region, and a range of Italian classics, including wood-fired pizzas. Her menu will include dishes like:
- Insalata fresca di finocchio – rocket, fennel, orange, fava, pecorino and chilli salad
- Mazzancolle – wild Scottish langoustines roasted with garlic and parsley
- Cozze ripiene – stuffed mussels
- Fegatini di pollo in padella – chopped chicken livers, balsamic nectar and pancetta
- Orecchiette cime di rapa
- Mafalda ragu
- Tortelli di aragosta alla vodka – lobster triangolo in a spicy red vodka sauce
- Triglia alla Livornese – Livornese-style roasted red mullet with capers, lemon, Leccino olives, parsley & tomatoes
- Bistecca alla Fiorentina
- Nonna Lina’s ricotta cake
Passione Vino’s Luca Dusi will be curating an all-Italian wine list for Nipotina, which’ll feature a strong by the glass and carafe selection. There’ll also be plenty of Italian-inspired cocktails – including the Nipotina Negroni, served by the ladle from a clay amphora on the bar – on offer too.
