SALON SPY | URBAN RETREAT

With travel restrictions looking like they are going to remain in place all summer and UK hotels already fully booked until autumn, a spa break in the city is (hopefully) a fail-safe option. Urban Retreat in Knightsbridge is a one-stop-shop for all your R&R needs. The townhouse, a former aristocrat’s mansion, has you covered for hair, beauty and wellness, right down to food and drink thanks to the addition of new plant-based restaurant Holy Carrot, which serves up food free from additives, refined sugars and gluten. We kicked off a visit with lunch in the restaurant, enjoying one of their super juices, an incredible Isle of Wight tomato ceviche, which was so, so fresh and full of flavour that it tasted like eating a holiday, and some crispy maki made of quinoa, stuffed with vegetables and served alongside a spicy mayo.

Once you’ve filled your insides full of vitamins it’s time to head upstairs and work on your outsides, whether that’s a visit to the nail salon and brow bar or to get some new lashes and laser hair removal. You can basically get anything and everything under the sun here. We headed to the Angelo Seminara Hair Salon for a cut and blow dry; the salon is super airy and feels a lot more personal and boutique with only a handful of chairs. Gianmarco was our stylist and he didn’t disappoint, working his magic on our bonce and giving us some very lovely new bangs.

We had to dash back to work unfortunately so couldn’t squeeze in a tattoo or some ear piercing before we left but if you’re looking for a place for a cheeky MOT for your bod or to spend a Saturday with the girls, Urban Retreat is a nice little spot.
