SALON SPY | NANO KERATIN AT HARE & BONE

The drastic change in weather really does play havoc with our hair – wind and rain is not conducive to good hair days and we find ourselves reaching for the straighteners even more to compensate. Thankfully keratin treatments can help us achieve those softer, sleeker locks without the reliance on our appliances. The Nano Keratin treatment at Hare & Bone in Fitzrovia is a particularly strong one, meaning it works a treat on frizzy hair that needs taming and makes it way easier to manage and style.

We were left in the very capable hands of Art Director Jamie for the treatment, who explained the difference between this and the old style of Brazilian blowdry (the new keratin ones nourish the hair from the inside out, rather than coating the hair with chemicals) before getting started. After a hair wash, made even more relaxing thanks to the salon’s massage chair, our hair was blowdried before the Nano Keratin was applied. It’s a thick consistency so its brushed on just like colour would be.

Once it had sat on our hair for about 30 minutes, it was round two in the massage chairs for another quick rinse to wash out about 50% of the product. Again our hair was blowdried and then straightened to seal the treatment in, and the effect was instant – our hair was immediately softer, more hydrated and it looked like the ends had been freshly chopped. Jamie advised us on the types of products to use to prolong the effects (look for sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner) as well as offering some extra styling tips.

Hare & Bone really excel at this; not only do you get talked through the entire treatment as it’s happening so you know exactly what they’re doing behind your head, they even take your face shape as the basis for all their recommendations to ensure you leave with the perfect style.

The treatment takes 2+ hours depending on the length of your hair and then lasts 3-5 months. Prices start from £250, so it’s similar to many other keratin treatments on the market, and it really has made a world of difference; zero frizz, even in the London drizzle, and our straighteners are spending more time in the drawer.
