Chelsea-based salon Monnáy is a wellness sanctuary amidst the chaos of the city. From the organic refreshment bar – it’s coconut water, not just regular water here – to the therapy rooms, it’s a very chill place to be. The salon offers a range of luxury treatments, from Hydrafacials to rose quartz mani-pedis to laser hair removal, as well as their own signature rituals, like the Russian Body Sculpting Massage.
Designed to reduce cellulite, boost circulation, promote collagen production and improve skin elasticity, the massage is concentrated on the bum, thighs and calves. When your therapist says that it’s more intense than a deep tissue massage you know it’s not going to be a relaxing hour, and with a background in sports massage, she went in strong. Some lingering tightness in our hamstrings from a barre class a few days prior was quickly straightened out and it felt like the cellulite was being pummelled out of our legs, though it’d probably take a few more goes to noticeably decrease its appearance.
Parts of the massage are definitely uncomfortable and we did have some lingering soreness the day after but there’s certainly no tension left in our lower half. If you can’t take firm pressure then it’s not the treatment for you, but if you like a deep tissue massage, you’ll love this.
