SALON SPY | HEDGEROW BY AGUA

I’m a big fan of Agua Spa at Sea Containers London and it’s one of my fave places for a little pamper sesh – you can go full robe and slippers like you’re on a proper spa day, even if you can only stay for an hour. The spa has just launched Hedgerow by Agua, an in-house range of small-batch, organic products inspired by the UK’s wild hedgerows, including a comfrey, St John’s wort, rosemary & peppermint Hedgerow Relief Balm; a rosemary, fennel & lemon balm Space Essence; and a jojoba, linden blossom & lavender Refuge Bath & Body Oil. All the products in the range are designed to support healing by boosting circulation, reducing inflammation and increasing antioxidant activity.

To complement and showcase the new Hedgerow range, the spa has created a new range of massages, manicures and pedicures that also make use of herbalism and aromatherapy techniques. Given that I spend most of the week sat at a desk (and not in an ergonomic office chair) or lugging a laptop around, I went in for the Agua Advanced Bodywork massage.

To get the relaxation going and loosen up my muscles, my therapist Ilaria started with a hot towel on my back before she got going with the massage, using products including comfrey, peppermint, St John’s wort and rosemary. She used firm pressure to work through the knots in my back like she was dialling a rotary phone; pushing the hand round, click, pushing the hand round, click, pushing the hand round, click.

Not only was it an excellent massage, properly relaxing and relieving, there were extra thoughtful details, like the heated neck pillow, warm eye cover, and heated slippers, that really made me feel all cocooned and cosy. I left with a new length and lightness in my arms and legs, my back muscles in their correct configuration, and a little bit of Agua to put on my bathroom shelf for next time tension strikes.
