If you’re into a bit of bondage and bangs (we mean fringes obvs), then Harness & Mane in Walthamstow is the salon for you. Owner Gunel, who’s been in the hairdressing biz since 2005, is also big on the alternative scene having worked on alternative fashion shoots and events across London. Along with her husband Hughie, she’s combined her two loves at Harness & Mane, which has you covered for all your hair and fetish fashion needs. Yes they have a boutique but if fetish isn’t for you, the only ropes you’ll come across are the ones by the sinks.
The team has expertise in all hair lengths and they can do some pretty creative things with colour and bleach – grey, pastel, rainbow, you name it, they can do it. We were after something a bit more subtle, a pre-spring trim and general refresh of our locks (the winter has not been kind), and the stylists delivered, getting rid of the all the dry straggly bits and tidying up our length. As well as making sure you leave with great hair, Harness & Mane is all about inclusivity, so the pricing is gender neutral and it’s welcoming to all, so if you’re after a new ‘do in E17, this is the place.
