The OG Butchers on the Shoreditch end of Hackney Road is one of our fave salons and it seems a lot of other Londoners love it too as founders Susannah Richardson and Katie Knox have opened a second salon, just up the road in Hoxton. Here the interiors are very industrial-meets-eco with wooden floors, plaster walls and pops of foliage, plus plastic screens suspended between the sinks and on wheels between the styling stations to keep things safe. The salon is hot on sustainability so they also use recyclable, biodegradable towels for each guest and work with Green Salon Collective and First Mile to recycle the chemicals and foils.
After months of lockdown, our hair was in desperate need of a cut and colour and with Creative Director of Colour Dominic Roach in the house, we knew we were in safe hands. Butchers uses Aveda products, which are cruelty-free and vegan, and he mixed up an Aveda Full Spectrum Demi + colour to enhance our natural shade with some gold undertones to add more dimension and movement to our locks. Dominic also applied the three-step Aveda Botanical Repair Treatment during the rinse to really help strengthen and protect our hair, before stylist Nico chopped off all the dead ends that have been clinging on through lockdown to complete the much-needed refresh.
Not only does the space look cool and feel comfortable, the stylists are fantastic and there’s just such a great vibe in the salon – the name might be Butchers but butchering your hair is certainly not their game.
