SALON SPY | BOND

Steering well clear of attempting an at-home cut during lockdown may have saved us from making a terrible mess of our hair, but it’s also meant its been rather neglected for the past few months. For our first post-lockdown chop we went to Bond in Shoreditch, a boutique women’s-only salon that’s recently been listed as a finalist for the Most Wanted Awards’ ‘Best New Boutique Salon’.

Tucked away on a quiet street just off Brick Lane, it’s a really cool space – think loft apartment vibes with high ceilings, wood floor, exposed brick and orb lighting. There are only four chairs, so there’s plenty of space, and with hand sanitiser on entry, screens between the sinks downstairs and stylists wearing masks and shields, it’s as safe as can be too.

The stylists are super friendly and really make an effort to give you a personalised service. Salon founder Ursula listened to exactly what we wanted whilst also offering some suggestions on how to refresh our style. As well as a wash, she applied a moisturising treatment to help revive our dry hair – they use R+Co products here, which are vegan, cruelty-free, sulphate-free and paraben-free. Bond also has full length beds at the basins rather than just chairs so you don’t strain your neck so much, and you can properly relax during the head massage.

Ursula got rid of the split ends and dead hair whilst still keeping the length that we wanted, and also cut it in a way to add more movement, giving our tired old locks some much needed TLC. She and the team have stuck the perfect balance between a relaxed atmosphere and attentive, personal service, making Bond the kind of salon you just keep wanting to come back to.
