RUDIE’S JERK SHACK TO OPEN IN BRIXTON

No, we’re not jerkin’. Or rather, we are – because Rudie’s Jerk Shack is opening a third site in Brixton Village. Where Rudie’s in Boxpark and in Borough Market are both grab-and-go, the Rudie’s Brixton space will be a 50-cover restaurant in the Market Village. And that, we’re pleased to say, means there’ll be a return to a full-format menu. 

You can get your chops around much-missed Rudie’s favourites like the Real Jerk marinated meat and fish, which get marinated for 24 hours in co-founder Michelle’s top-secret blend of herbs and spices before being slowly smoked over charcoal in a traditional steel drum.

Oh yeah, baby. There’s a reason why jerk tastes so damn good: it takes time, effort, and the passion of people who know what they’re talking about. Rudie’s food has always drawn on the heritage of co-founder Michelle Miah, who leverages her Jamaican ancestry to create innovative takes on the island’s classic dishes.

She and her husband and co-founder Matin spent years exploring Jamaica’s food scene and learning the secrets of jerk from the people who know it best. The Brixton opening is a bit of a passion project for Michelle, who spent a lot of time in the neighbourhood with her Jamaican grandmother.  And it’s not only about the food: the new Rudie’s site will feature a bar stocked with the very best Jamaican rums – not to mention their classic Rum Punch. We’ll drink to that…
