Ifyou believe that good things come in small packages then hold onto your tiny hats because the latest solo exhibition by Roy’s Peoples is a corker. Using itsy-bitsy figures, whimsical concepts and perfectly poised photography, ‘Little Heroes’ uniquely explores the notion of identity in the digital age.
The collection plays on the themes of romance, chivalry and super heroes (topics we’re well acquainted with at LOTI, being the romantic, chivalrous, heroic bunch we are). Social media is in the firing line, however, as Roy’s mini subjects shoot mercilessly at the Twitter bird and Facebook logo. Meanwhile, his ‘We are Heroes’ series encourages everyone to fight back against Zuckerberg et al to reclaim their inner power.
It’s an inspiring, thought provoking and downright funny body of work definitely worth checking out. Oh, and could someone please inform Bonnie Tyler? Rumour has it she’s been holding out for a hero since the 1980s and these little scamps could be just what she’s looking for.
