The London Transport Museum is taking one of its vintage trains out for a ride once again, this time to celebrate 200 years of train travel and the 25th anniversary of TfL. A restored 1938 burgundy Underground train will be making its way along the Metropolitan line across 5th – 7th September, travelling from Amersham to Harrow-on-the-Hill on Friday and Sunday, and from Amersham to Watford via the rarely used North Curve on Saturday.
There’ll be four journeys (two single and two return) for the Amersham to Harrow-on-the-Hill trip on Friday and six journeys (tow single and four return) for the same trip on Sunday, which also coincides with the annual Amersham Heritage Day. There’ll be seven journeys (two single and five return) for the Amersham to Watford route on Saturday, with Watford Underground station celebrating its 100th anniversary.
As well as riding on the heritage train, the journeys will also give you the chance to learn about architect of Charles Holden, who designed many of the art deco-style outer London tube stations, in the 150th anniversary year of his birth.
