RICHARD CARING TO OPEN THE EXTREMELY OTT BACCHANALIA IN MAYFAIR

With a name like Bacchanalia and a man like Richard Caring behind it, this new Mayfair opening is hardly going to be an understated, minimalist affair. Designed by Martin Brudnizki, the OTT main restaurant will feature hand-painted ceiling murals, a floor-to-ceiling interpretation of ‘Romans In Their Decadence’ by Gary Myatt, four huge Damien Hirst statues, and an array of 2000-year-old Greek and Roman artworks. There’ll also be the Artemis private dining room, which overlooks the main space, and the Apollo’s Muse members’ club inspired by the Admirable Gallery at Villa Albani.

Athinagoras Kostakos will be heading up the kitchen with a Greek-Italian menu, featuring dishes like seabream carpaccio, turbot for two, and risotto nero for three, with many dishes being finished tableside to make a dinner here even more of a theatrical experience. The wine list will be just as extra, with over 650 bottles from Greece, Italy, France and beyond (including 25 Italian 100-point wines, making it the only place in London to do so), and exclusive Bacchanalia own-label wines. What else would you expect from a restaurant named in honour of the god of wine?
