have been championing Veronica Falls since we picked up their 7’’ ‘Found Love in a Grave Yard’ two years ago. With a love for ghosts, clanking chords and tambourine drums Veronica Falls debut is a beautifully crafted piece of indie pop with boy/girl harmonies, dark haunting melodies and surf/punk inspired guitars. The majority of the tracks and lyrics might draw upon dark subjects but the tune that carries through is joyous and infectious.

Veronica Falls have a unique quality of pulling you into their music, whether it is through the harmonies that fill the space in your head be it dark and spooky or chirpy and cheery or through the lyrics that paint the picture as the song develops revealing a vivid story. This quality gives a direct and instant appeal to listeners which is why we’ve been listening to this no stop for the last three weeks.

The eagerly anticipated debut has been a while in the making and Veronica Falls are brilliant at creating eerier and mysterious concepts. ‘Found Love in a Graveyard’ is the perfect gloomy album opener with its sing along chorus about falling for a ghost. ‘Right side of my Brain’ was available via download about a year ago and is an upbeat yet dark punk number. Current single ‘Bad Feeling’ is another gloomy track full of great melody and harmonies with a ridiculously catchy chorus.

The fast pace of the album is not only down to the pounding drums but the rhythm of the guitars as they churn through crashing chords in a crescendo of noise. ‘Misery’ is one our favourite tracks from the debut with its brilliantly infectious melody and glorious girl/boy vocals. ‘Beachy Head’ is probably the biggest track on the album in terms of noise and is one of their strongest tracks live. As far as are concerned there is not a bad track on the album and when the twelfth track ‘Come On Over’ draws to a close it leaves you wanting more.

Buy it and fall in love with it.
