We first visited Delhi Grill to try the roti wraps (£2.95 – cheap as chips!) but this time we went to sample the curries. The inside had change a bit since we were last there, it felt more like a restaurant with candles on the tables and a live roti maker on display.
We visited Saturday, early evening and following all of the recent positive press there was a constant supply of punters and telephone calls. To start we opted for a large bottle of Kingfisher beer, Poppadums and dips, Tandoori Chicken and Tandoori Paneer. Both of the Tandoori dishes arrived sizzling on a hot plate. The Chicken was cooked and flavoured to perfection and the Spiced Paneer Kebab with pepper, tomato and onion was a great dish and for only £1.95 bloody good value!
For mains we went for the Rogan Gosht, Chicken Karahi, Pilau Rice and Naan. The slowed cooked Rogan Gosht with Lamb, tomatoes and spices was a treat, the lamb was tender and juicy and you could really taste the different spices. The Chicken Karahi was another winner, the meat was so soft it crumbled under the folk and the curry had a real kick to it, ideal when it’s sub zero outside. The pilau rice was non greasy, and the naan which we had just watch being made couldn’t have been fresher.
The food at Dehli Grill is the most authentic Indian food we have tasted in the UK. The recipes have been passed down through the generations and now and again the aunties still get involved in the cooking. There are not a huge amount of dishes on offer but this means they are able concentrate on the dishes they do offer and what they do do, they do good.
The prices are dirt cheap, our food came in at under £30 with drinks.
Would we go back? Damn right we would and we’ll be ordering take away!
