Road is famous for many things, but decent eating options on your lunch break is not one of them. Thank goodness then for Tonda, a family-run business which was founded in the 1950s in Italy, which has opened its first UK outpost right on Portobello.

Specialising in traditional Italian ‘pizzetta’, which are just 6 inches wide, and priced £3-£4, Tonda is perfect for a quick lunch. The pizzettas are spot on, with thin crispy bases and topped with a varied selection of authentic Italian ingredients. We loved forest mushrooms with gorgonzola and mozzarella; pork and fennel sausage, pecorino and broccoli; and Pachino cherry tomatoes with anchovies. The great thing about the small size is, you can try more toppings innit!

Tonda also sell soups, pastas and some pretty amazing desserts such as custard doughnuts and chocolate filled croissants which are absolute winners. If you’re on Portobello and need a quick lunch or dinner spot, Tonda is well worth checking out.
