White Horse
(after quite a bit of searching) hidden away in Exchange Place behind Liverpool Street Station. The pub is part of the Geronimo Inns group who have a long list of pubs in London Town.

The White Horse was full of city types in suits, toasting their bonuses on the day we visited and there wasn’t a spare table in the house. The décor is chic and stylish, a lot brighter than your usual city pubs and bars.

The food menu has a strong emphasis on English comfort food – pies, roasts, fish and chips – washed down with a good selection of real ales, beers, wines and champers – well it is in the city! The menus change on a daily basis and there were plenty of specials on offer.

We started with a Goats Cheese and Beetroot salad which was a tasty, fresh salad with a generous amount of goats cheese, the only grumble we had was that the toasted seeds seemed to be missing. For mains we choose the Pot-roast Norfolk chicken with mushrooms, roast potatoes and carrots and the Shepherds Pie with kale and roast carrots. Dishes are served on chopping boards rather than plates which adds to the country vibe.

The dishes were full of flavour and stodgy – exactly what pub grub should be and whilst the portions weren’t huge they were filling. The Cottage Pie was the real winner, especially on a freezing winters night. We’re not ashamed to say we cleaned our plates.

We did manage to fit a desert in, the pear and apple crumble with custard was the chosen one. The crumble was a great end to a pleasant meal and we’d happily go back, those hand cut chips looked pretty good.

If you like what you see, join the geronimo club for special offers in all of their pubs.
