season has just 'kicked off' and The Jugged Hare are offering a tasty little incentive for those game. Yes you can have your very own birds cooked by the head chef, in the BYO Brace promo.

We popped along recently to enjoy their menu, which saw a Wednesday evening jumping like 21 jump street…in the bar anyway, it was slightly more distinguished in the dining area. With food to pick from their daily specials board along with the pub menu it's a tough choice. From the daily board the crab, mussels and clam risotto was beautifully created, a hearty portion, full of exciting flavors.

Sizzling Isle of Man queen scallops, chorizo, garlic, sea spinach was an impressive looking dish which did indeed arrive still hissing and crackling. The scallops were fresh as a daisy, lovely and plump.

Mains were equally as impressive, the juicy Cumbrian rib of beef on the bone, béarnaise sauce, chips and a double fried egg – that's two fried eggs, not one egg double fried – left us sweating…

Beef is all well and good, but when it comes to birds, The Jug really ups it's game. We decided on the whole grouse. This, we were assured, is a gamey-game with a strong flavour and not for the faint hearted. It came succulently roasted and, as promised, oozing with taste. Not a bird for bland old chicken fans, this got more and more liver-like and juicy the closer to the bone you got. Complemented with a rich pate and buttery side of cabbage.

Staff were full of recommendations and very knowledgeable about the menu too. Want to get in the game…just bring your brace – which must be hung, plucked and properly transported before being accepted.

We can only live in hope that they organise a promotional event which sees US rapper Game appear to play a round of The Game of Life while singing Losing My Favourite Game by The Cardigans and tucking into one of the game treats from the menu!
