Culpeper in Spitalfields is already one of our favourite pubs with great grub, vibes, drinks on the ground floor, a little posher nosh in the restaurant above and cute little garden with views on the roof. And now, there’s no need to leave, as the pub has launched 5 new bedrooms on the second floor.

The rooms are simple in design and decor, with distressed walls that make it almost feel like you’re staying at Uncle Monty’s house. But fear not, all of the technology and soft furnishings are modern and well-sourced – yes Netflix is built into the TV. But the best thing about the rooms? Well it’s that you get the chance to completely indulge below and stumble upstairs to bed. And indulge we did.

Staying on a Sunday, we kicked off with a roast in the main pub, starting with deep fried black pudding balls and followed by the beef with all the trimmings before finishing with strawberry and custard tart. It’s pub food at its finest; healthy portions of rich, delicious food and not for those on a diet.

In need of a lie down we climbed upstairs, where we watched the sunset reflect off the Gherkin from our window and people dashing through the streets below. Breakfast is included in the price and that includes a simple kitsch buffet (yes there’s Marmite) and cooked options including the HUGE Full English. The Culpeper is a great option for tourists looking for something other than your usual bland hotels.
