all love eating a big dirty burger standing on the street but sometimes it’s nice to treat yourself to somewhere a bit sexier, and The Balcon at the Sofitel on Pall Mall certainly ticks the boxes in the swish stakes. The high ceilinged dining room is full of lavish light fixtures, polished floors, leather banquette seating and even a champagne library – very fancy indeed!

The menu is all pretty classic stuff, with the usual meats, fish and salads. We started with a lovely charcuterie board of French and English hams, rabbit terrines and pork rillettes, plus a big basket of various breads and fresh, salty butter. Lobster pasta was up next – with PLENTY of big chunks of lobster – and welsh lamb saddle with rich gravy and lots of veg.

Then came the profiteroles, fluffy pastry filled with rich ice-cream and drizzled in gooey chocolate sauce. Oh those French know how to do a pastry alright!

Service is slick as well so if you’re looking to impress someone, The Balcon is a very good shout.
