There’s a new hero in Shoreditch, and it ain’t no chicken…it’s actually turkey. Strut and Cluck are championing the often over looked turkey and showcasing this lean, mean and damn right tasty meat through their Eastern Mediterranean home cooking. Founded by husband and wife team Amir and Limor, the duo have created a set menu of new, exciting dishes revolving around the white meat usually paired with stuffing, cranberry sauce and gravy.

Before we gobbled up the new bird on the block, we strutted around some starters including a very on trend/seriously sexy cauliflower with lemon zest infused crème fraîche, nigella seeds and pomegranate…this dish is as colourful as it is flavoursome. Another must try is the Far East-Middle East, lettuce cups of hand-pulled turkey, bean sprouts, spring onions, topped with roasted almonds, pomegranate and labneh in a smokey harissa sauce. Super fresh, these were the perfect light dish to set us up for the main event…

Limor’s classic slow-roast thigh served on a bed of caramelised red onions and sweet potatoes with barberries came recommended and it didn’t disappoint. Whilst hand pulled shawarma with dates and pine nuts had all the flavour of a naughty kebab only with none of the guilt. All the meat served here comes from English farms and has been fed a drug free diet (unlike some of the Shoreditch regulars no doubt!). It’s either grilled on a charcoal oven or roasted so it’s fair to say it’s one of the healthier dining options around, especially as turkey is now a “superfood”.

With friendly service and a menu that is fresh, exciting and different in a good way, it’s fair to say Strut and Cluck have got us championing the phrase; a turkey is for life, not just for Christmas.
