Diner is the new joint from the brains behind the Soho House group and Chicago restaurateur Brendan Sodikoff. Located on Old Compton Street in the heart of Soho the diner features the usual Soho House group style of interiors with a big central bar, booths and tables for dining – there’s even a handful on the street if you fancy going al fresco.

The diner is the *first place in London to serve cocktails on tap which clock in at £6 a pop, we’d recommend the Negroni or if you want something a little more special the Grey Goose Fizz which comes in a little higher.

Food wise Brendan has brought over some treats from Chicago including the Au Cheval Cheeseburger which comes in single or double but in England that’s the equivalent of a double or triple. We got the single with bacon and avocado which is two burgers topped with a chunk of bacon, half an avocado and all the trimmings – caution you will get messy! We’d also recommend the Honey fried chicken; small, sticky morsels of goodness and the Shrimp cocktail with chilli and avocado which is a pretty generous portion.

With out doubt our favourite part of the meal was the giant sized Banana Split – they don’t make ’em like these anymore, mainly due to food legislation but bloody hell it’s good. For reasonably priced diner food in big portions Soho Diner is where it’s at.
