The latest in Jason Atherton’s series of restaurants is now open and this one’s really raising expectations, like literally….it’s on the 24th floor of Tower 42 which means you’re dining high in the sky.
There’s a restaurant for more formal dining or a bar serving cocktails and nibbles if you’re looking for a more relaxed vibe. Good for a first date we think (hint, hint!). We sat in the bar and explored the cocktail menu which features some weird and wonderful creations with names to match.
Our favs were the Herbal Effervescences with Tapatio blanco, roast pineapple, tarragon, citrus, champagne and tasty pineapple crisp and the Madame Camomile with Tanqueray No.10 gin, peach brandy, camomile flower, lemon juice, egg white and silver lining. Because when you’re that high you want every cloud to have a silver lining…
The bar snacks are equally as impressive, smoked pork empanadas were crammed with tender meat but the pièce de résistance was the Ploughmans Basket, displayed on the table like a mini-picnic with scotch egg, cheese, crackers, salt beef and various condiments. Picnic in the sky? We like it.
For some quirky creations which will grab your attention inside as much as the views outside, Social Bar has it down to a T.
