beginning to feel a lot like… a cold winter’s day in Denmark? Yep, believe it or not, it’s not all Christmas trees and tinsel out there at the mo you know. Plenty of restaurants are still doing their thang without the jingle bells, Danish restaurant Snaps + Rye being one of em’! We skipped down to the Portobello Road restaurant to sample their newly introduced dinner menu running on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays with weekly changing dishes. It’s a 5 course set menu at £35 a pop, not bad at all! Our first course – Crab Fiskefrikkadeller (fishcake), Curry Remoulade and a soft boiled egg and a second of Severn Cider and Onion soup, both warmed our cockles nicely.

The third and main course was a mega treat, hopping its way on to the plate came the Rabbit Suet Pie with seasonal veg and gravy. A little more British than expected but the fresh pastry and tender meat was welcome in this weather. An interval of cheese and Peters Yard crackers became the moment we peaked but hey, theres always room for dessert right? And when it’s a creamy, silky, lemon posset layered with passion fruit and brandy snaps it’s hard to leave a single bit.

Wine flowed, the owners were friendly and accommodating, and old dog Blue was star of the night as he wondered from table to table begging for belly rubs, cheeky! The venue is small making it a cosy experience whilst the rain pelted down outside and an in house store sells traditional Danish cookbooks and produce for you budding home cooks. A great spot for dinner, and we’ve heard the brunch is pretty damn good too! Time to plan a second visit…
