the heart of Spitalfields SMITHS’ offers an all day dining experience with a classic best of British approach. SMITH’s you may recognise is the sister joint to the Smiths of Smithfields. With four floors you can expect a very different experience on each, from moving to beats in the basement, to breakfast and a coffee on the first floor and late night boozing in the evening. There’s the dinning room on the first floor and the loft space for private parties and what not at the top.

We checked out the first floor where rare breed beef along with other classics can be found. There’s an open kitchen housed in the middle of the room, high ceilings, exposed beams and brick work – sexy! Salt cod fritters grabbed us for starters, four fried parcels filled with soft fish and well complimented by a helping of lemon mayo. The giant prawn and chicken spring rolls were also pretty tasty. The outside was glazed in a sweet sugar giving it a doughnut like quality…have we coined another trend? Spring-dough or nut-roll…either way we liked it!

Many of the mains sound tempting, especially now the cold weather has set in. Sometimes though a burger craving hits you and that’s precisely what slapped us in the dish. The 9oz Rare Breed Beef Burger with Cheddar Cheese, Woodall’s Old Spot Bacon, Tomato Relish and complete with Chips was pretty epic.

The menu is decent, desserts are good and the coffee tastes great. Reasonably priced too…check it out.
