& Wollensky crossed the pond earlier this year, opening its first steakhouse outside of America in The Adelphi building just of The Strand. And some building it is, a 1930’s art deco design that now houses a spacious restaurant with a similar style to the likes of 34 and the Ivy Market Grill. Think big leather booths, marble bar, shiny wooden floors and sparkling brass.

The restaurant specialises in steaks hand-cut in the in-house butchery but there’s also a decent selection of seafood too. We started with a jumbo lump crab cake, heavy on crab and easy on the potato which is what you’d expect given the price tag and the plump seared scallops with pea puree and crunchy bacon.

For mains there was a lot at steak, and luckily the 14oz sirloin nailed it. A hunk of soft, tender meat full of flavour. Add to this a portion of the buttermilk onion rings, truffled mac’n’cheese and the sliced tomato and sweet onion salad and you got yourself a feast. So much so that we had to take our steak away.
