A
little piece of Shanghai has landed in W12, say HELLO to the new kid in Shepherds Bush, Shikumen. Situated in the grade II listed building, The Pavilion, now the newly opened Dorsett Hotel, Shikumen is an authentic gateway to the East…The name Shikumen translates to ‘Stone Gate’ referring to the colonial style architecture in Shanghai. The restaurant touches on the rich Oriental grandeur of dark woods, discreet screenings and vibrant artwork.
The menu is packed with traditional and fusion dishes. We couldn’t (and you shouldn’t) pass on the authentic Beijing peking duck, which is carved at the table. First comes the insanely delicious skin, then meaty part served with handmade pancakes and bao buns- double win.
The skillfully handmade dim sum is light and fresh, and the whole sea bass delicately cooked in Asian flavours, with all seafood sourced from Scotland. The soft-shell crab cooked in almond butter is another must – complex but a very familiar taste.
Looks like Shey Boo is still on the up people…
