making a name for themselves in Ealing, pizza place Santa Maria has opened a second site in Chelsea. Nestled between Kings Road and Fulham Road, the new joint is much larger than the original and has a pizza oven built from bricks made out of sand and dust from Mount Vesuvius (because obvs that makes the pizzas taste better).

The new site also serves up a similar menu as the Ealing branch, including the popular Aubergine Parmigiana and Bocconcini Alla Pizzaiuola; balls of smoked buffalo mozzarella in San Marzano sauce, both come with freshly baked bread. But of course the main attraction is the pizza and we went for the more traditional San Gennaro topped with anchovies, black olives, capers and oregano and the San Giuseppe with smoked mozzarella, free range rare breed sausage, wild broccoli and chilli flakes. The slightly chewy dough really makes this pizza and THAT San Marzano sauce made with San Marzano D.O.P tomatoes pre-ordered a year in advance well… When it came to dessert we only managed to squeeze in a couple of scoops of Oddono’s Gelato, but the homemade tiramisu looked incred!

We went with high expectations and Santa Maria certainly didn’t disappoint, so if you’re ever in Chelsea darling be sure to grab a pizza the action. BOOM BOOM.
