already been to Salvation Jane for breakfast but last week we went along to try out the dinner menu. Located just a short walk from Old Street the Oz inspired cafe is a welcome hub of activity on an otherwise pretty non-descript road.

We visited on a Friday evening and even though SJ have only been serving dinner for a short time the place was heaving. We started by exploring the drinks list which features a couple of wines and beers, and an impressive selection of cocktails – which it just so happens are only £4 before 7pm and only £6.50 after – BONUS.

We sipped on the Russian Spring Punch; a mixture of Vodka, Cassis, lemon juice, raspberries and Prosseco and the Elderfower Daquiri. To start we opted for the Asian style sticky pork ribs served with slaw, cooked just right so that the meat slid straight off the bones. Another dish of roasted butternut squash and Wigmore salad with toasted hazelnuts was well thought out, simple yet effective.

When it came to mains we were a little disappointment that two of the six options were sold out due to a busy lunch sitting. So we opted for two servings of the Pork belly with colcannon croquettes, kale and apple cider jus. The disappointment didn’t hang around too long, the Pork belly was perfectly cooked with a crisp crackling coating which sat on top of a tender chunk of tasty meat.

To end the gooey Chocolate brownie with berry coulis and coconut foam was the icing on the cake. An all round great meal with super cocktails and boy can the staff dance…
